Sealing Versus Expunging Criminal Records
Our criminal defense attorneys are readily able to handle either the expungement or sealing of criminal records.
- Sealing a record is possible when the charges are dismissed thorough a pre-trial diversion program or through trial. When your record is sealed, the public — including future employers — will not be able to see the charges.
- A criminal expungement completely removes a conviction from your record. If you were convicted of a misdemeanor, you must wait at least one year from the completion of your sentence to apply for an expungement or, if you were put on probation, a year from the date that you are officially finished with probation. If convicted of certain felonies, you must wait three years from the completion of your sentence to apply for an expungement.
Please note, not all criminal convictions are eligible for expungement.
Over the years, we have sealed or expunged criminal records regarding fake ID charges, assault, DUI and underage intoxication, among others. Our criminal defense attorneys will carefully examine your circumstances, clarify the law and explain whether or not your criminal record can be sealed or expunged.
